Frequently asked questions

Pricing

Do you travel?

Bridal bookings: Yes! I typically travel to anywhere in the U.S (or beyond!). For destinations requiring longer travels - extras, such as, airfare, meals and hotel costs are added to the minimum daily rate. Non Bridal bookings: I encourage the client to travel to my home based studio in Newark, CA.

Is there a validity period on my quote?

While the rates are subject to change at any time, without notice, if you have been quoted a rate, your quote is valid for 30 days. Any signed contracts will be completed at the contracted rates.

Why is bridal appointment more expensive?

One reason is duration on the day – Bridal services take longer to complete than anyone else in the wedding party, as they should because it’s the bride’s day! The bride is the main attraction and they expect to be treated as such :) The time spent on bridal engagements is also typically longer, with emails, telephone calls, texts, face-to-face meetings, scheduling, preparing contracts etc.

Do you provide hair extensions? Is there an extra charge for securing them?

No, I do not provide hair extensions as thet come in a myriad of colors and range. They are an expensive investment so it's best to have my brides purchase them directly. I keep a set of extensions with me as a sample so I can show my brides what difference they can make to a hair style at the trial. No, there isnt any extra charge for securing them except my lower most package. Note: Please consult via email if you have any questions regarding where to find them and I will be more than happy to make some recommendations.

Will I be charged a late fee?

YES! A late fee of $15 is charged for every 15 minutes the bride is delayed past our agreed upon start time or if scheduled appointment exceeds allotted time because of client delays.

Are you able to provide early morning or late night services? If so, do you have any additional charges for it?

Yes, services are scheduled at any time, as may be needed for your special occasion. I have started services as early as 2am and finished as late as 10pm! My usual hours are 8am to 8pm, and any enagement (including drive time) that goes outside of these hours is considered an “Early Start/Late Finish”, which will be charged extra. Generally speaking - few of my Bridal packages are inclusive of any such charge.

Can my deposit be refunded?

No, all deposits are non-refundable.

Bookings & Confirmations

When is my booking confirmed?

Availability is reserved after receiving 50% deposit AND a signed contract - Unfortunately, no reservations can be made based on an inquiry. Below is the outline for the booking process for weddings and special occasions: Bridal bookings: Requires a deposit of 50% to secure the trial, and a signed contract and 50% deposit to secure the wedding day booking. Making payment only for the trial without committing to the wedding day means availability for your wedding day cannot be guaranteed. Reservations for bridal appointments is made on a "first pay, first serve" basis. Non-bridal bookings: Requires a deposit of 50% to secure the booking.

How much in advance do I need to book you?

Bridal bookings: My brides have made reservations as far as year and a half in advance, so there is really no set duration. I recommend making decisions as soon as possible especially in your wedding falls in popular wedding months. Non Bridal bookings: If they are weekend bookings then I book them only a week in advance. Weekday bookings can be done 2 -3 weeks in advance.

Is there any satisfaction guarantee?

YES! services will be completed to client’s satisfaction, but is not to exceed allotted appointment time. Ample time is given for each service upon booking. Acceptance of completed service by client is acknowledgement that service is done to his/her satisfaction.

Privacy

Do you take photos of your clients?

Yes! pictures are taken during the trial and on the day of the event. These pictures are used for promotional purposes and are posted on different social media handles, however absolutely no personal information is released. It is totally up to the client whether or not they would like to be tagged in those photos.
That said, I completely respect and understand privacy matters so should you not want your photos to be published on social platforms except our website, please just let me know in advance!

Bridal Trial

Can you recreate the exact same look as my inspiration photo?

No, please understand that the images you share are for reference only and its impossible to guarantee that the result can be replicated 100% exactly. There are numerous reasons behind it, for eg., those images have the help of Photoshop and retouching to give the illusion of perfect skin and hair. Sometimes there is a use of lot of hair extensions, padding, fillers to achieve that look. Those makeup & hair looks are primarily for editorial purposes that may not be feasible in real life or cost you a lot more time and money, with a lot more unnecessary products. Most importantly, there was a different stylist who worked on that person with his/her own style and techniques. Besides, I often tell my clients what may look good on someone else, may not necessarily look exactly the same on your face cut, hair texture, color and style!
So, my goal is to come as close as possible to your vision BUT with a hint of my expertise mixed in it ;-)

How do you make sure you remember what we decided at the trial?

Once, the right hair and/or makeup look has been established for you at the trial, face-charts are created for all brides-to-be along with notes and special comments that may need to be factored in on the actual day of the wedding. Tiniest of detail discussed at the trial is penciled in so even if the wedding is after a year, there are notes on what precise products to pack in the kit and what look to achieve. In addition, heaps of photos from all angles are taken and filed in a folder so they can be referred back on the day of the bridal appointment.

How long are the trials?

Most bridal trials take upto 3 hours. This is the first practical step into the entire bridal booking process, perhaps the most important one! that involves discussions about your look, outfit, jewelry, color palette and the overall theme of the wedding. All of this is required in order to determine the right look for you and your personality.
Therefore, it's obvious all this takes time while a relationship of trust & comfort is being established.

Are there any set days and times for a trial?

All trials are booked during the weekdays, Mon thru Thurs, typically at my home based studio. I recommend scheduling them in the first half of the day so we are able to make most use of natural light.

Can I use trial for my pre wedding photoshoot or any other event?

I dont recommend doing that due to technical limitation it poses on me as an artist. If you need to be camera ready at the end of the trial then it limits me on the products or variations i can practically demonstrate on you. Eg: I can't have various pigments and tonal variation on your face if you decide to use the outcome for a photoshoot, right?

Do I need to prepare for the trial?

Yes! I cannot stress enough about how important this step is into making sure you and I are working toward the same goal. After you've made an appointment with me, you will be receiving a detailed document that will explain what photos to email be prior (latest a week in advance!) and how to come fully prepared for the trial. It's imperative you understand that every step (as stated in the document) must be followed in order for us to be able to extract full juice out of the trial.

Do you provide airbrush foundation application? If so, how much advance notice do i need to give you for including that to the service?

Yes! airbrush makeup application is available upon request.
If you'd like to add airbrush foundation for a more flawless, longer lasting coverage please let me know via email atleast 1 week in advance from that day of your trial appointment.
If you happen to change your mind after the trial, then atleast 2 weeks notice should be given via email.

Will I be charged late fee for arriving late at my trial?

If you’re running late due to any reason, please inform ahead of time so I am prepared accordingly. While I understand things happen and appreciate the heads up, there will still be an extra $15 charge for every 15 minutes of wait time for you.

Can I bring a friend and/or a family member to the trial?

Although, it's preferred/recommended that the consultation remains between the to-be bride and the artist only, should you plan on getting any of your Friends or Family, please let me know in advance. Please limit guests to one, or they will be asked to wait in the cafe nearby.
The studio is small and cannot accommodate a large group. You may show your family or friends the finished product upon completion. Children are not permitted into the studio without advance notice. The studio isn't baby proofed and there are equipments and products that can harm them if not watched.

Can you do on-location trials?

Please note, trials are always recommended to take place at the studio, however on-location trials can be arranged upon request. The EXACT same rules apply to home visits - family, friends, children & pets are not allowed around the trial area. Please make sure there is a clean, sanitary work table/work area (standard study/dining table height) made available at the location. Ample lighting, whether by means of natural light or by lamps, is necessary for services to be performed properly. Nearby power outlets to be made available in order to plug in tools.

Will you be taking photos of me for your personal catalog?

Yes! these pictures are primarily taken for reference purposes but can be used for marketing on different social media handles. Absolutely no personal information is released and it is totally up to my client whether or not they would like to be tagged in those photos.
However, I completely respect and understand privacy matters so should you not want your photos to be published on social platforms except our website, please just let me know in advance!

Do you provide hair extensions? Is there an extra charge for securing them?

No, I do not provide hair extensions as thet come in a myriad of colors and range. They are an expensive investment so it's best to have my brides purchase them directly. No, there isnt any extra charge for securing them except my lower most package. Note: Please consult via email if you have any questions regarding where to find them and I will be more than happy to make some recommendations.

How do I prep my hair for the appointment? Do I need to do anything if my hair is curly or wavy?

If you are getting an up-do, half up-half down, all down and curly/wavy or straight styles, please arrive with clean and totally dry hair from the day before. (Not damp, not wet) Eg: If the appointment is on Saturday, your hair should be washed on Friday. You may put your normal products in your hair after you've washed it. If you feel your hair gets oily, I have dry shampoo that works better than a freshly washed head of hair or if you really must wash it the same day then please DO NOT apply Conditioner, use Shampoo ONLY. One day old hair holds styles better. If your hair is freshly washed, your style may not hold the entire night. If your hair are naturally wavy or curly and you’ve requested for a smooth style, please have your hair flat-ironed either a night before or a few hours prior to the appointment so I can straight away get into styling.
I would like smooth roots near the base of your hair. If you have any questions about this, please check in prior with me to avoid any last minute confusion! If your hair are super wavy/curly and the style requested requires going over with two different hot tools in order to first straighten/smoothen the hair and then go into actual styling then that will be counted as two different hair services. This will take much longer that your allotted service time and will cost you the price of two services.

What products and brands are in your kit?

I use the highest quality brands in the market. Some of the high-end products and cult brands in our professional kits: KEVYN AUCOIN | TEMPTU | SENNA COSMETICS | KETT | GRAFTOBIAN | KRYOLAN | ESUM | VISEART | MAC | BDELLIUM TOOLS | NYX| MORPHE BRUSHES | SIGMA | CINEMA SECRETS | RCMA | LA GIRL COSMETICS | EMBRYOLISSE | VERA MONA | BEN NYE | JAPONESQUE | ARDELL | KAT VON D | INGLOT | TARTE | TRESEMME | HOT TOOLS | COLOR POP | MAKEUP GEEK | SUGARPILL | ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS | | HUDA BEAUTY | HOURGLASS | YSL | BOBBI BROWN
Please note: While all Makeup products used are hypoallergenic, any skin condition should be reported by the client to me prior to application and, if need be, a sample test of makeup may be performed on the skin to test reaction. You can also discuss option of brining your own specific product should you feel it'd be safer that way.

Travel

Do you travel?

Bridal bookings: Yes! I typically travel to anywhere in the U.S (or beyond!). For destinations requiring longer travels - extras, such as, airfare, meals and hotel costs are added to the minimum daily rate. Non Bridal bookings: I encourage the client to travel to my home based studio.

Bridal Services

Do you provide saree draping, dupatta/veil pinning & hair accessory setting?

Yes! I am able to help with the complete shebang. I basically make sure that I am there for my bride from start to the very last minute so if she needs help with dupatta/veil setting, saree draping, hair accessory or jewelry setting - I am right there by her side!

How long are the bridal appointments?

Bridal appointments can take up to 4 hours.
It’s understandable that there may be numerous moving pieces on the wedding day requiring immediate attention from you, therefore, the time window is calculated keeping in mind all of those variables along with the actual services & more.
Only Hair or only Makeup appointments, take between 1.5 - 2 hours, depending on various factors like style, desire, volume, length of hair etc.
That said, I am there to create an experience of a lifetime for you, so I can take as long or as little as needed/available! Brides however are special and it’s the most important day of their lives, so why rush!?!, right?

Will you be taking photos of me for your personal catalog?

Yes! pictures are taken on the day of the event. These pictures are used for promotional purposes and are posted on different social media handles. Absolutely no personal information is released and it is totally up to my client whether or not they would like to be tagged in those photos.
However, I completely respect and understand privacy matters so should you not want your photos to be published on social platforms except our website, please just let me know in advance!

Can you do updos for brides?

Yes, however for weddings requiring a heavy bridal dupatta/veil to be worn on the head, the updos are recommended with paddings. This is to ensure that the weight of the heavy dupatta is supported by the updo & doesn't tug on the scalp during ceremony.

Can you do bridal appointments without a trial?

Yes and No, It's highly recommend and a standard protocol followed with all my brides. Afterall, you want to look your best so why not do a complete dry run on the exact look of your vision. Some exceptions for brides traveling from another state or country, and/or on a time crunch have been made. Please send me an email if this is the route you decide to go so we can discuss more details.

Will you be available for bridal touch-ups?

Yes! although my makeup application ensures that your makeup stays fresh and flawless all day (10+ hours) and most products used are waterproof and sweatproof. Other than a slight fading of lip color due to talking and eating, none of the makeup will need to be retouched. Even the hairstyles will last throughout the event with no touch-ups needed. But should you still need touch-up service, please feel free to get in touch and discuss available options.

Do you provide touch-up kits?

NO! touch up kits are typically not provided, however, a comprehensive list of items that the bride could include in her kit is emailed out so it can come in handy on the day of the wedding. If you do not want to heavily invest or dont have the time to compile one yourself, please feel free to get in touch to talk about other options.

How do I prepare for the bridal appointment? Both, myself and set up?

- Please be ready with all the items out & set in place like your outfit, jewellery, hair accessories/clips/pins, lockable saftey pins, footwear, veil, real flowers for hair etc before my scheduled arrival time. This will help avoid last minute rush. - Please wear a robe or a button down shirt so you can change into your bridal outfit easily. Also, a good practice to make notes of the sequence on how your jewellery will be worn, sometimes the neck piece chain is small so wearing it prior to starting with hair style is better. - Please make sure, there is a “set up” table/work area (standard study/dining table height) made available for me at the location. Low height tables could cause back trouble as application requires a lot of bending up and down in order to access the kit along with a slower work speed. - Ample lighting, whether by means of natural light or by lamps, is necessary for services to be performed properly. Nearby power outlets to be made available in order to plug in tools. - Please ensure that the work area is clean and tidy with no pets around in order for me to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene in my kits. - For hair services it’s preferred to have either a backless/low height or adjustable stool or puffy. - For makeup services, a bar stool height chair or adjustable desk chair works best. But, I mostly carry my own chair and light.

Can my friend or family members be around during the bridal appointment?

Ideally not! my sincere recommendation, allowing for one on one time & space while I glam you up for the most important day of your life. It’s highly important that you follow this as a key rule to stay focused, stress free and most importantly on schedule.
I understand your folks & friends sharing the excitement with you but if you reserve those couple of hours just with me – I promise, I’ll leave you looking stunning, happy and oozing with glow just in time for all of them!

Will you be able to provide assistance with miscellaneous requests?

While I am there to create an experience of a lifetime for you to remember and assist/help you in the best possible way I can, I’d appreciate if you kept the requests limited to the services I offer. Unfortunately, assistance with brining the footwear, help with slipping them on, ironing, organising clothes, and such tasks will not be fulfilled.

How can I prepare for saree draping service?

For Blouses: try to avoid halter tops, it's hard to pin saree to it. Try the fitting prior, make sure it fits tight/snug to your body. Getting Saree Made: Please make sure saree has the weight (faulty line) sewn in. This helps weigh down the bottom of the sari appropriately otherwise it wont drape with a proper fall. Petticoat & Note for Tall Height Brides: A petticoat is a must, no exceptions. Make sure it's not only the right height for you but also the right height if you are wearing heels. Check the height of the saree too. It should cover your feet completely with your footwear slipped on. If its too short, please consider getting an extra strip of fabric stitched on the upper side of the saree so that extra margin can be used for tuck in. Please feel free to get in touch to dicuss prior should you need more clarification on this. Bring on the day: Lots of safety pins of all sizes with sharp head and atleast two lockable (nappy) pins for pinning pleats. Pack your blouse, petticoat, saree & footwear. Make sure the saree is well ironed and spread out on a flat surface like bed to avoid creasing.

Will me or my friends and/or family be able to borrow items from your kits?

Unfotunately not! please respect my beauty kits. You will not have access to borrow anything from my personal kit, so please don’t ask. Borrowing from my kit without asking will result in extra charge.

Is bathroom a good area for set-up?

No, while the lighting may be great in the bathrooms, the overall space is often not conducive for setting up my station. I often run in problems where my products fall into the sink, and there is always a constant struggle with space unless you have a large counter space with enough room for me to move around.

Can you work with all skin types or do you only prefer to work with South Asian brides?

I have an extensive experience working on fairest to deepest skin tones. My client base has a wide array of ethnicities, such as American, Australian, South Asian, Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian, Filipino and Latino - to name a few! I absolutely love working with all ethnicities and learing the nuances of different wedding ceremonies. My professional kits extensively include products for all skin tones, skin types and hair textures.

Do I need to email you anything before my appointment? If so,how much in advance do I need to send those out to you?

Yes, you are requested to email clear photos of yourself focusing on the face and/or hair length along with a couple of reference photos of the kind of look you desire. This helps me understand your taste and style so I can make recommendations accordingly. Please try sending photos within one week of you making reservations with me or latest two weeks prior to the event date in order for me to ensure I come in more than prepared for you.

What is Airbrush? How is it different from traditional application?

Airbrush foundation is sprayed through a gun similar to spray tan technique. I use the brand called Temptu.
It’s believed airbrush gives better coverage, sits more naturally, flawlessly on the skin & has greater longevity than the traditional application. From experience, it does look more seamless and is highly recommended to clients who have oily or ultra sensitive skin and/or prone to breakouts.
In terms of longevity, from experience both applications stand about the same timeframe which is typically 6 – 8 hours, on paper. However, I have had brides come back and tell me that their application lasted them more than 12 - 15 hours!

Can I request for a blow out? If so, how do I come prepared?

If your hair is short (above lip length) and/or you want a "blow out" you may come with damp hair to be blown dry. This is a blow-dry style only and will not involve any heat, i.e. curling irons or flat irons. In other words you will have your hair styled from wet to dry with a brush & blow dryer.

Bridal Party Services

How Many Artist(s) do I need to book?

You should allow an average of 45 to 50 minutes per service in order for the artist to render services to client satisfaction. Eg: If you need a total of 6 services and have a total of 3 hours window then you should book 2 artists. However, the type of style, length, volume of hair, kind of makeup and the speed of individual artist may affect this, which will be discussed with you (the main point of contact) through the course of the process.

Will you be responsible for the artist(s)?

Yes and No! While these artist(s) have been working with TM’s Makeup Artistry for months to over a couple of years now and their professional standards are par excellence, Unfortunately TM ‘s won't be liable for their style, work and applications. The team has been compiled solely for my bride’s convenience, carefully handpicked after an interview process but they all work for their own brands as independent/freelance artist(s) and therefore, TM ‘s cannot take responsibility for anything outside of scheduling and coordination.

Do you provide bridal party services or have a team that could help with it?

No, I work with the bride exclusively. However, I have a team of artists who I can schedule if you need help with services for your bridal party or wedding guests.

How does the booking work?

After I receive the minimum confirmed number of services, events, ready by time and location from the client. I reach out to my team to check their availability, once I hear back from them, I inform you know so you can make a decision and put the deposit down. Booking(s) with my team will only be confirmed after receiving 50% advance deposit. Please note: a very few of my artists know teeka/jhoomer setting so please let me know in advance if that’s a requirement. Also, my team doesn't offer saree draping/dupatta setting service. Please inquire separately with me, should you need this service as an add on.

How does the payment work?

Payments are made as one whole amount via the main point of contact. 50% advance is required in order to confirm the booking and balance is due on the day of the event before beginning the services.

WIll I be able to reduce the number of services last minute?

Unfortunately not, the client will have to honor the agreed number of services as the artist(s) are booked according to those set number of services and it becomes very difficult to accommodate changes last minute.
